Resumo O Brasil tem hoje uma demanda por 21 milhões de hectares de restauração florestal, e como consequência, uma enorme demanda por mudas nativas. Desta forma, torna-se essencial o uso de técnicas que possam maximizar o uso dos substratos e da água de irrigação, visando a produção de mudas de alta qualidade. Diante deste cenário, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o crescimento de mudas de Poincianella pluviosa (DC.) L.P.Queiroz produzidas em quatro substratos elaborados a partir de diferentes resíduos (subsolo, lodo de esgoto, serragem compostada e moinha de carvão) e sob duas lâminas de irrigação (0,03 L/h e 0,05 L/h) por dia. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com esquema fatorial 4 × 2 (quatro tipos de substratos e duas lâminas d’água), totalizando oito tratamentos. Os substratos foram avaliados quanto às suas características físicas e químicas. Foram mensuradas a altura, o diâmetro de colo e a massa seca da parte aérea e radicular das mudas após 105 dias de emergência. Os substratos S1- lodo de esgoto puro e S4- lodo de esgoto + serragem (1:1) apresentaram melhores características físicas e os substratos S1- lodo de esgoto puro e S3-lodo de esgoto + moinha de carvão (1:1) exibiram melhor composição nutricional. Para crescimento em altura não foram observadas diferenças entre os substratos e lâminas de irrigação testados. Os substratos constituídos por 50% de lodo e 50% de moinha de carvão ou serragem e com a maior lâmina de irrigação resultaram em mudas com maior diâmetro, biomassa e qualidade, sendo os mais indicados à produção de P. pluviosa.

Abstract Currently, Brazil has a demand for 21 million hectares of forest restoration, and consequently, a great demand for good quality native species seedlings. It is important to employ techniques that reduce the costs of productive inputs as substrates and the irrigation water. In this context, the paper aimed to evaluate the growth of Poincianella pluviosa (DC.) L.P.Queiroz seedlings produced in four substrates elaborated with different solid wastes (sewage sludge, composted sawdust, and charcoal powder) and under two irrigation depths (0,03 L/h and 0,05 L/h). The experiment was conducted in completely randomized design with a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement (four substrates and two irrigation depths), eight treatments in total. The physical (porosity, density etc) and chemical (nutrients and organic matter contents) properties of substrates were evaluated. The seedlings shoot height, collar diameter, shoot, root, and total dry mass were measured. The substrates S1- pure sewage sludge and S2- sludge + sawdust (1:1) presented the better physical characteristics and substrates S1- pure sewage sludge and S3- sludge + charcoal powder (1:1) showed the better nutritional composition. For the growth in height there were no difference between the substrates and the irrigation depths. The substrates formulated with 50% of sludge and 50% of sawdust or charcoal powder, combined with the higher irrigation depth, resulted in seedlings with higher collar diameter, biomass, and quality, for which they are recommended to produce P. pluviosa.

Abstract This study evaluated the production of Inga laurina (Sw.) Willd seedlings in 110 and 280 cm3 tube containers and growing doses (0, 3, 6 and 12 kg m-3) of controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) (15-09-12) and their performance at 5 and 12 months after outplanting. The experiment was conducted using a randomized split-plot design, in a 2 x 4 arrangement (tube volumes x CRF doses). Stabilized sewage sludge from urban origin was used as substrate. It was assessed growth and biomass of the seedlings in nursery, as well as survival and growth after outplanting. Containers of 280 cm3 and doses between 6 to 12 kg m-3 produced seedlings in less time, with higher growth and biomass. At 12 months after outplanting, seedlings presented acceptable growth and mortality rate with doses equal or greater than 6 and 3 kg m-3 of CRF, respectively, for the 110 and 280 cm3 tube.

Resumo A fertilização na produção de mudas florestais é variável de acordo com o substrato, recipiente e o tipo de fertilizante utilizados. O fertilizante de liberação controlada (FLC) pode ser utilizado visando diminuir ou mesmo eliminar a necessidade de fertilização de cobertura. A dose de FLC aplicada pode variar de acordo com o volume do recipiente, considerando a quantidade de substrato disponível para as mudas em diferentes recipientes. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o crescimento de mudas de Schizolobium parahyba produzidas com tubetes de 110 e 280 cm3 em doses crescentes de FLC (15-09-12) (0, 3, 6 e 12 kg m-3), bem como seu crescimento inicial e sobrevivência após plantio na região norte do estado do Rio de Janeiro. O estudo foi conduzido em arranjo fatorial 2 x 4 (recipientes x doses de FLC) com 5 repetições para cada tratamento. Como substrato foi utilizado lodo de esgoto de áreas urbanas, submetido a secagem em leitos ao ar livre. O crescimento das mudas no viveiro foi avaliado aos 93 dias após a repicagem e a sobrevivência e crescimento inicial em campo aos 5 e 12 meses após o plantio. As mudas de Schizolobium parahyba apresentaram maior crescimento em tubetes de 280 cm3 e responderam positivamente à aplicação de FLC, sendo que a dose de máxima eficiência técnica foi de 8,3 kg cm3 para esse tubete. Aos 12 meses após o plantio, mudas de todos os tratamentos apresentaram sobrevivência menor que 80%, ficando abaixo do recomendado para plantios de restauração florestal. A mortalidade das mudas ocorreu devido a cinco meses de déficit hídrico em solo argilo-arenoso. Considerando apenas os dados de viveiro, a combinação de tubete de 280 cm3, com a dose de FLC de 8,3 kg m-3 são recomendados para produção de mudas de Schizolobium parahyba.

Abstract Fertilization in the production of forest seedlings can vary according to the substrate, container and fertilizer used in the nursery. Controlled release fertilizers (CRF) can be applied to reduce or even to eliminate the need for top-dress fertilization. The CRF doses can vary according to the container volume, considering the different amount of substrate available for seedlings in different containers. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of Schizolobium parahyba seedlings produced in plastic tubes of 110 and 280 cm3, with different doses of CRF (15-09-12) (0, 3, 6 e 12 kg m-3), as well as the seedlings survival and the initial growth after post-planting in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro state. The study was conducted using a factorial design 2 x 4 (tube volumes x CRF doses), with five repetitions for each treatment. As substrate it was used sewage sludge from urban areas, which was dried in open air beds. The growth of seedlings at nursery was evaluated at 93 days after the transplant, and the survival and initial growth at five and twelve months after planting. The Schizolobium parahyba seedlings showed higher growth in 280 cm3 tubes and responded positively to the CRF application, where the most efficient dose was 8.3 kg cm3 for this plastic tube. Twelve months after planting, seedlings from all treatments showed survival below 80%, being under the standard recommended for forest restoration. The mortality of seedlings occurred in consequence of five months of water deficit in a sandy clay loam soil. Considering only nursery data, the combination of 280 cm3 plastic tubes, with the CRF dose of 8.3 kg cm3 are recommended to produce Schizolobium parahyba seedlings.

RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar técnica, química e biologicamente o biossólido proveniente da estação de tratamento de esgoto (ETE) de Alegria, Rio de Janeiro, e inferir sobre sua aptidão como componente do substrato para produção de mudas de Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi (aroeira pimenteira). Foram coletadas amostras significativas do biossólido, submetidas às análises química e biológica em um laboratório especializado, atendendo às especificações da legislação vigente (Resolução CONAMA nº 375/2006). No viveiro, foram testadas quatro diferentes formulações de substrato, compostas de diferentes proporções volumétricas de substrato comercial (SC) e biossólido (BIO), consistindo nos seguintes tratamentos: T1 (100% SC + 0% BIO); T2 (75% SC + 25% BIO); T3 (50% SC + 50% BIO); e T4 (0% SC + 100% BIO). O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com 4 tratamentos, 4 repetições de 18 mudas. O biossólido atendeu às especificações da legislação quanto à sua composição. Aos 120 dias após a semeadura foram mensuradas a altura da parte aérea e o diâmetro do coleto, observando que o crescimento das mudas foi diretamente proporcional à concentração de biossólido no substrato. O biossólido da ETE Alegria atende à legislação de uso agrícola e mostrou ser viável tecnicamente para a produção de mudas de aroeira pimenteira.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to technically, chemically and biologically characterize the biosolids from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of Alegria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and infer about their aptitude as a substrate component for the seedlings production of Anadenanthera macrocarpa (Benth.) Brenan. Significant samples of biosolid were collected and submitted to chemical and biological analysis in a specialized laboratory, according to the specifications of the current Brazilian law (CONAMA Resolution nº 375/2006). In the forest nursery, four different formulations of substrate, composed by different volumetric proportions of commercial substrate (CS) and biosolids (BIO) were tested, consisting of the following treatments: T1 (100% SC + 0% BIO); T2: (75% SC + 25% BIO); T3: (50% SC + 50% BIO); e T4: (0% SC + 100% BIO). The experimental design was CRD, each of the four treatments having four replications of eighteen seedlings. The biosolid met the legal specifications concerning its composition. Fifty days after sowing, shoot height and stem diameter were measured. It was observed, for both characteristics, that seedling growth was directly proportional to the concentration of sewage sludge in the substrate. Finally, the Alegria ETE’s biosolid attends the legislation and shows a technically viable alternative for the production of angico vermelho seedlings.

ABSTRACT Biosolids is a problematic residual issue in Brazil and other developing countries, where it is common to discard this material in landfills and/or open dumps. However, biosolids can be recycled in agricultural and forestry activities, considering they have high contents of organic matter and nutrients. Therefore, their application in substrates to produce forest seedlings can be beneficial. The scope of this study is to evaluate substrates with different proportions of biosolids and coconut fiber in the growth and quality of seedlings of Ceiba speciosa (A. St.-Hil.) Ravenna, a native species from South America that is largely used for landscaping and forest restoration. There were studied substrates with proportions varying between 25 to 100% of biosolids and 75 to 0% of coconut fiber to produce seedlings in containers (plastic tubes with 280 cm³). At 120 days after sowing, it was measured the growth, biomass and quality of the seedlings. In general aspects, the higher the proportion of biosolids in the substrate, the higher were the growth, biomass and quality. The biosolids favored the growth in shoot height and biomass more than in diameter and root biomass. Considering the positive results and the possibility of recycling biosolids, it is recommended the use of substrates containing from 50 to 100% of biosolids to produce Ceiba speciosa seedlings in 280 cm³ plastic tubes.

RESUMO Os objetivos deste estudo foram avaliar a deposição de serapilheira ao longo de dois anos e a qualidade nutricional da serapilheira, em função do espaçamento de plantio visando à restauração florestal. Os espaçamentos de plantio 1 × 1; 1,5 × 1,5; 2 × 2 e 3 × 2 m, constituem as unidades amostrais dos tratamentos. No espaçamento 1 × 1 m foi observada a maior deposição de serapilheira, não havendo diferenças entre as unidades dos demais espaçamentos. A fração folha mostrou, em todos os espaçamentos, maior aporte de serapilheira (77%). O maior conteúdo de nutrientes foi observado no espaçamento 1 × 1 m. Em geral, constatou-se a seguinte ordem quanto o conteúdo de nutrientes da serapilheira N > Ca > K > Mg > P.

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to evaluate the deposition of litter over two years and the nutritional quality of the litter, depending on the planting space aimed at forest restoration. The planting space 1 × 1, 1.5 × 1.5, 2 × 2 and 3 × 2 m, are the sampling units of the treatments. In 1 × 1 m spacing greater deposition of litter, with no differences between the units other spacings was observed. Leaf fraction showed, in all spacings, greater intake of litter (77%). The higher nutrient content was observed in the 1 × 1 m spacing. In general, was observed the following order as the nutrient content of litter N> Ca> K> Mg> P.

O trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar o aporte de serapilheira, durante o período de um ano, em plantio de recomposição florestal implantado em diferentes espaçamentos. O plantio foi realizado em novembro de 2004, na Usina Termoelétrica Barbosa Lima Sobrinho, Seropédica - RJ. Em dezembro de 2007 foram instalados nove coletores circulares, que foram presos às árvores com fio de nylon, nos quatro diferentes espaçamentos: 1 x 1 m; 1,5 x 1,5 m; 2 x 2 m e 3 x 2 m. As coletas foram feitas mensalmente até dezembro de 2008. O material foi levado ao laboratório, separado em folhas, galhos, reprodutivos e miscelânea e após ser seco em estufa a 65ºC por 48 horas, foi pesado. Os valores encontrados para deposição total de serapilheira foram, do mais ao menos denso espaçamento: 6,93; 4,48; 5,12; e 3,71 Mg ha-1. O espaçamento que produziu maior quantidade de serapilheira foi o 1 x 1 m. A deposição de serapilheira foi maior na estação seca, sendo o padrão sazonal do aporte semelhante nos diferentes espaçamentos. A fração folhas foi predominante em todos os espaçamentos. A deposição de serapilheira, de modo geral, correlacionou-se de forma positiva com a cobertura de copa e não apresentou correlação com a área basal do povoamento. Os valores de produção de serapilheira verificados neste trabalho podem ser considerados semelhantes aos encontrados em matas secundárias próximas à área de estudo.

This study aimed to evaluate the deposition of litter, during one year period, in forest restoration plantation, deployed at different spacings. The planting took place in November 2004, at the Thermoelectric Plant 'Barbosa Lima Sobrinho', in Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro state. In December 2007, nine circular collectors were installed, tied to trees with nylon, in the four studied spacings: 1 x 1 m; 1.5 x 1.5 m; 2 x 2 m; and 3 x 2 m. The collections were done monthly, until December 2008. The material was taken to the laboratory, separated into leaves, branches, reproductive and miscellaneous and after being dried in stove at 65 °C for 48 hours, it was weighed. The values found for the total deposition of litter were, from the more to the less dense spacing: 6.93; 4.48; 5.12; and 3.71 Mg ha-1. The spacing which produced a greater quantity of litter was the 1 x 1 m. The litter deposition was higher in the dry season. The seasonal pattern was similar in the different spacings. The leaf fraction was predominant in all the spacings. The litter deposition, in general, was positively correlated with canopy cover index and was not correlated with the basal area of the stand. The obtained values of the litter production in this study can be considered similar to those found in secondary forest near the study area.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento, quantificar a biomassa e analisar algumas características tecnológicas que influenciam na produção de carvão vegetal da madeira de cinamomo (Melia azedarach L.), implantado em diferentes espaçamentos, em povoamento misto, em Seropédica-RJ. O experimento foi implantado nos espaçamentos 1,0 × 1,0; 1,5 × 1,5; 2,0 × 2,0 e 3,0 × 2,0 m. Um ano após o plantio, 12 indivíduos de cinamomo foram selecionados em cada espaçamento para mensuração de altura. Estas avaliações ocorreram anualmente, até 5 anos. Na última, também foram avaliados o diâmetro no nível do solo e a área de copa e de cada espaçamento; cinco árvores foram selecionadas, abatidas, separadas em componentes da parte aérea e pesadas. Em seguida, amostras de cada componente foram retiradas, pesadas úmidas e colocadas em estufa para determinação de sua massa seca. Em subamostras da madeira dos espaçamentos 1 × 1 e 3 × 2 m, foi determinada a densidade básica e realizada a pirólise para fins energéticos. Cinamomo apresentou maior crescimento em altura e diâmetro no nível do solo no espaçamento 3 × 2 m. Os valores de área de copa não diferiram entre os espaçamentos. A maior produção de biomassa média por árvore ocorreu no espaçamento 2 × 2 m. A madeira é adequada para a produção de carvão vegetal, não tendo sido verificadas diferenças significativas para as características tecnológicas da madeira entre os dois espaçamentos avaliados.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth, quantify the biomass, and analyze some characteristics of the wood of chinaberry (Melia azedarach L.) at different planting spacings in a mixed stand in the municipality of Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro state. The following spacings were used: 1.0 × 1.0; 1.5 × 1.5; 2.0 × 2.0; and 3.0 × 2.0 m. Five years after planting, 12 chinaberry individuals were selected, in each spacing, for measurement of height, diameter at ground level, and canopy area. For analysis of biomass, five trees were selected, felled, separated into components of the aerial part and weighed. Then samples of each component were collected, weighed while humid, and placed in stove for dry weight determination. Subsamples of the components of the aerial part were sent for analysis of carbon content. Basic density was determined and pyrolysis for energetic purposes was performed in the subsamples of wood of spacings 1 × 1 m and 3 × 2 m. Chinaberry presented greater growth in height and diameter at ground level in the 3 × 2 m spacing. Canopy area values did not differ between the spacings. The highest average biomass production occurred four years after planting in the 2 × 2 m spacing. The wood of chinaberry tree is suitable for the production of charcoal. No significant differences were observed in the technological characteristics of wood between the two spacings evaluated.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar a serapilheira acumulada sobre o solo e sua taxa de decomposição, em quatro diferentes tipologias florestais: povoamentos de Acacia mangium wild, Mimosa artemisiana Heringer & Paula e Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla; e uma floresta secundária na fazenda Cachoeirão, no município de Além Paraíba, MG. Em cada formação florestal foram feitas duas avaliações, a primeira em junho de 2008 e a segunda em junho de 2009, o material foi levado para laboratório, sendo separado, seco em estufa e pesado. Para avaliação da decomposição da serapilheira, foram utilizados litter bags, sendo as coletas realizadas aos 30, 60, 90, 150 e 210 dias após a instalação. O povoamento de eucalipto apresentou os maiores estoques nas duas coletas, enquanto mimosa (Mimosa artemisiana Heringer & Paula) apresentou menores valores. A serapilheira de mimosa (Mimosa artemisiana Heringer & Paula) apresentou a maior taxa de decomposição, com valores de K = 0,0034 e T1/2= 203 dias, enquanto para acácia (Acacia mangium wild) foram verificados menores valores (K= 0,0013 e T1/2= 533 dias). Dentre os povoamentos florestais, mimosa (Mimosa artemisiana Heringer & Paula) e eucalipto (Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla) produziram a serapilheira mais rapidamente decomposta, o que evidencia a melhor eficiência dessas espécies no processo de ciclagem de nutrientes e incorporação de matéria orgânica ao solo.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to quantify the litter layer on the soil and its decomposition rate, in four different forest types: wild stands of Acacia mangium, Mimosa artemisiana Heringer & Paula and Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla, and a secondary forest at Fazenda Cachoeirão in the municipality of Além Paraíba, Minas Gerais state. In each forest formation, there were two evaluations, the first one in June 2008 and the second in June 2009, the material was taken to laboratory, where it was separated, oven-dried and weighed. For litter decomposition evaluation, litter bags were used, and those were collected at 30, 60, 90, 150 and 210 days after the installation. In the eucalypt area it was observed the highest litter stock in both evaluations, and the lowest values occurred in mimosa area. The litter of mimosa had the highest rate of decomposition, with values of K = 0.0034 and T1/2 = 203 days, while acacia had the lowest (K = 0.0013 and T1/2 = 533 days). Among forest stands, mimosa and eucalypt produce faster decomposing litter, which highlights the best efficiency of these species in the process of nutrient cycling and incorporation of organic matter in soil.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a influência do espaçamento de plantio no crescimento de seis espécies florestais, aos 22 meses de idade, em plantios de recomposição florestal, na Bacia do Rio Guandu. O experimento foi instalado na SFE - Usina Termelétrica Barbosa Lima Sobrinho, Município de Seropédica-RJ. Foram utilizadas 48 espécies arbóreas, estabelecidas nos espaçamentos 1,0 x 1,0; 1,5 x 1,5; 2,0 x 2,0 e 3,0 x 2,0 m, os quais constituem os tratamentos. Aos 22 meses após plantio, avaliou-se o crescimento em altura, diâmetro ao nível do solo (DNS) e largura da copa para as espécies Anadenanthera macrocarpa Benth. Brenan (angico vermelho), Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (aroeira pimenteira), Schizolobium parahyba Blake (guapuruvu), Chorisia speciosa St. Hill (paineira), Cordia sp. (babosa branca) e Inga marginata (ingá). Foi constatado que o crescimento das espécies comportou de maneira diferenciada nos espaçamentos de plantio, sendo que os mesmos influenciaram significativamente no crescimento inicial de todas as espécies. Concluiu-se que, de modo geral, nos espaçamentos mais amplos, as plantas apresentaram maior crescimento.

This work veriflied the influence of planting spacing on the initial growth of six forest species, at the age of 22 months, in plantations of forest recomposition in the Guandu River Basin. The experiment was installed in the SFE - thermoelectric power plants Barbosa Lima Sobrinho, located in the City of Seropédica-RJ. Forty eight tree species were planted, using the spacings, 1.0 x 1.0, 1.5 x 1.5, 2.0 and 2.0 x 3.0 x 2.0 m, which are the study treatments. At 22 months after planting, it was evaluated the growth in height, diameter at ground level (DNS) and area of the canopy for the species, Anadenanthera macrocarpa Benth. Brenan (angico vermelho), Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (aroeira pimenteira), Schizolobium parahyba Blake (guapuruvu) Chorisia speciosa St. Hill (paineira), Cordia sp. (babosa branca) and Inga marginata (ingá). It was found that the studied species behaved in a different way in the differents spacing of planting, and that the planting density significantly influenced on the initial growth of all the species. In general, in wider planting spacings, the plants had higher growth.
